Dulles Area REALTORS® Gather at Lansdowne
September 5, 2006
The Expo website can be found here. The theme for this year is "learn - grow - become more."
Yours truly has a 45 minute speaking spot mid-afternoon on the subject of "Blogging for Business." This is the "not so notable" on the speaker list. My entire presentation is geared toward a practical introduction to real estate blogging and can be found here (a quick Blog of course). It will be delivered live using the Internet and the presentation Blog to acquaint agents to Blogging and its power to create web-based relationships. My theme is: How to stop worrying (about SEO) and love the Blog!
Comments from the Blogging critics are welcome. This is an open forum and contributions from my expert Blogoshpere friends are appreciated. Participants will be able to ask questions and get answers long after the Expo concludes.

Thanks Gail, Look forward to getting you in the Blogosphere.
Hello Merv, I enjoyed your presentation at the expo yesterday, and I plan to start my own blog. I will be calling you for help, and in the meantime I have been looking at other blogs.
Thanks again,
Gail

My special thanks to all those attending my session this afternoon. This was the "first time out" for me on this topic and I realize there are some rough spots that need sanding. No one can teach "what" to Blog. What we can do is show you "how" it can benefit your business and "how" to get started. A Blog is a very personal thing. It becomes who YOU are. The content becomes your reflection as viewed by the observing world.

Ben, I appreciate your comments. I was surprised and honored that you took the time to attend this session. Zillow is a promising tool and I use it in almost every listing presentation as "another data point" to zero in on a sellers price point. Having spent many years in the IT services business with EDS, I learned that potential clients and customers want the expertise of what you offer but on their terms, not ours. Hence, I Blog for consumer consumption NOT other Bloggers. I think it is the biggest mistake our industry makes when we speak our industry speak, not our customer's speak. Thanks agian for attending. Look forward to an ever improving Zillow!
Merv,
The information on blogging you presented today at the DAAR expo was excellent. I especially liked how you emphasized the negative consequences of self-promotion and the value of providing relevant consumer centric content on a real estate professional’s blog. Another big plus was the lesson you shared about using newspaper-like nomenclature – articles not ‘posts’ etc. Great stuff.
All the best,
Ben
