7 days, men in skirts, knobby knees and 843 emails
by Merv on Wednesday, July 18, 2007 at 11:25 AM | [0] Comments [0] Blog linksThe Daily Market Watch picked up again this morning. The monthly statistics are waiting for me to fill in the all the charts. It appears (at a glance) that not much changed in a week without watching.
Below are selected photos depicting activities and friends at the event.
Left to right:
(1) Massed pipes and drums marching with dance competition in the background,
(2) Pam relaxing on our mobile patio with a friend, and
(3) A meet up with the friends that were on our 2005 Scotland tour (the "head only" is Alex Beaton, Scottish entertainer and tour organizer).

Vacationing with 5,000 of my closest Scottish friends
by Merv on Monday, July 9, 2007 at 06:34 AM | [0] Comments [0] Blog links
We are making our annual pilgrimage to the Grandfather Mountain Highland Games (GMHG) in Linville, North Carolina. This is our 12th consecutive year attending the games and hooking up with many friends we have met at this festive production. We camp (in a very nice RV), we eat and we imbibe (always in moderation). Sharing a taste of single malt with friends and new acquaintances is always a pleasure. No daily updates, no ranting on the blog, no email (clients can reach us by cell phone); just enjoying 4,500 foot altitude in clear, fresh air, mostly cool temperatures and at least one round of golf.
Will return July 17th.

Champagne on the house!
by Merv on Saturday, December 30, 2006 at 03:50 PM | [0] Comments [0] Blog links
Welcome to the Guide. Have a virtual glass of bubbly on us! It is only the very finest Dom Perignon from the cellars of Moet & Chandon, the 1996 vintage scoring a perfect 100 points. EnjoyPam and I had the good fortune to spend time in France this year and took the train from Paris to Epernay, a small french town in the Champagne region and home to Moet & Chandon. The Chateau was impressive, the tour of the famous caves fantastic and the champagne is fabulous! If you get to Paris, it is worth the day trip to Epernay to experience the Champagne.
Be fabulous!
Here's wishing all my friends, family and clients a Happy and prosperous New Year! (hold the virtual glass up for this toast... ... ... thank you)

The Guide is on a 7 day break
by Merv on Sunday, July 2, 2006 at 08:00 PM | [0] Comments [0] Blog linksWe will be away from July 4th through July 10th on our 12th annual trip to the Grandfather Mountain Highland Games (GMHG) in Linville, North Carolina. This is one of the oldest and grandest Scottish games in the nation. The games were founded in 1956 by Agnes MacRae Morton (mother of Grandfather Mountain owner Hugh Morton) and former Charlotte News reporter Donald MacDonald. Estimated attendance for the 4 day event is 30,000 visitors and participants.
More information on GMHG can be found here and here.
Note: I have Lindsay heritage and wear the Lindsay kilt and Pam is a McIntyre.
